Since English is not my first language, I often have to research extra for vocabulary that I don't use or hear often. When I saw the word "Qualitative" I thought of "quality", but as I was reading the texts, I figured out it was a littl more then just that simple meaning.
I came across this on wikipedia (I know, it's not a reliable source, but still helpful) and really helped me put understand, since it broke it down for me in an easy way.

I hope this can help someone else as well.
No worries Marie! English IS my first language and I have difficulty getting through the texts. I always read them with my dictionary sitting close by.
ReplyDeleteI know Leslie said this would be like learning a new language, but... wow! I guess my mind doesn't process information that way. Reading an overview on wikipedia was really helpful. The texts made sense afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI think wikipedia is a reliable source. Many of your other professors might not. Here is my rationale:
ReplyDeleteWikipedia is written by millions of people who cross-check each others' work and can report it if it doesn't meet their understanding of the topic. That seems more reliable to me than an article written by one person who shares one perspective.
I guess working in a library, wikipedia is not recommended to cite. However, we use it all the time for quick and easy searches. "True" librarians would frown upon my use of wikipedia!
ReplyDeleteI understand. Some professors would be very upset with me endorsing wikipedia so publicly.
